Our Babies Class is just for babies 8 months or younger, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. We'll show you ways to interact and play with your baby, and we'll help you understand and recognize your baby's musical development. We’ve selected songs and activities especially to help you interact with your not-yet mobile child.

 

Babies love music!

Babies learn to sing exactly the same way they learn to speak - by watching and listening to their parents and people they love.   In fact, babies are born as hungry for music as they are for language, and just as with language, they need an early exposure to music for their own natural abilities to unfold. But the exposure has to come from real people for this learning to take place.  Children who miss out on early childhood music and language exposure can never fully make up the learning in later life.

When children are exposed to music making at an early age, they can grow up to sing as easily as they talk, or to dance and move as naturally as they breathe.

 

No experience required!

You can help your baby develop lifelong music skills, just by singing, rocking, bouncing, and playing with your baby. You don’t have to be a music expert! All you have to do is have fun with your baby, while you go about your day. 

Our classes will give you songs to sing while you change his diaper, or bounce her on your lap, or lay him down with a sweet lullaby. And we’ll help you see how much of a difference you’re already making in your child’s life. You’ll actually see your baby’s musical behaviors unfolding as the class progresses! 

How your baby might respond in class

It’s amazing to consider, but even young infants will actually “sing”!  Babies often match their vocalizations to the tonality of the music we’re singing, and when we sing a different song, their vocalizing will change too.   They often notice and respond to songs with unusual tonalities, and they express preferences for favorite songs - even songs they heard before they were born!

The babies in our classes frequently beam or look fascinated.  They might wave their hands, kick their feet, or suck a pacifier in response to the music.  They may alternately shake a shaker egg and put it in their mouth.  (We wash and sanitize all mouthed items!)  They may watch their parent's face while a parent is singing, and sometimes reach up to touch a parent's mouth as they absorb this experience.  Older babies might crawl into everything, or sit in the middle of our circle and "dance".  Some songs will actually make babies or young children giggle - which is always fun for everyone! 

 

Class schedules and information

Classes meet weekly for 45 minutes, over a 10-week session. Don’t worry if your baby is asleep in class!  You and your baby will still get the benefits of class if you show up with a napping baby.

Tuition:

Tuition is $155 plus a one-time $10 registration fee, and includes all materials, including cds and songbooks to enjoy with your baby at home.  

Babies are welcome in our Babies classes as young as birth and as old as 8 months. You’re also welcome if you’re pregnant, and want to learn even before your baby is born!

Due to the specialized content of this class, older siblings are not recommended in our Babies classes. 

 

Your baby is still welcome in our mixed-age classes! 

Babies are welcome (and beloved) in our mixed-age classes!  While some parents love the extra education and support in a babies class, others prefer the dynamics of a mixed-age class.  Babies also enjoy watching older babies and toddlers in a mixed-age class, and they learn from watching what the older children are doing. 

Whichever class you choose, expect a fun and interactive time with your baby!
