Social and Emotional Development
Ms. Katie O. got to attend the annual NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Yound Children) conference last week and learned so many new things to bring back and incorporate into our program.
While there, she presented, with Dr. Lili Levenowitz and Music Together In-School teacher Ellen Acuna, to a group of teachers from around the globe on the topic "Creating Harmony: Supporting Preschoolers’ Social-Emotional Development with Music and Movement".
Some key takeaways...what we know from research, is that many things impact a child’s social and emotional development over time – their school environment, home environment and community all interact to shape children’s social-emotional learning. Social-emotional development includes the child’s experience, expression, and management of emotions and the ability to establish positive and rewarding relationships with others.
Making music with YOU will ensure that your child will not only be musical as well, but that they will have the tools to identify and understand one’s own feelings, to accurately read and comprehend emotional states in others, management of strong emotions and their expression in a constructive manner, to regulate one’s own behavior, to develop empathy for others, and to establish and maintain relationships.
