Now we are four!

Our teaching staff continues to grow as we add more classes. Yay! We are Miriam Klein (director and certified teacher), Karen Hild (registered teacher), Lorna Dries (registered teacher), and now Krystle Middlemiss (registered teacher).

Krystle joined us this fall as an apprentice in our Tuesday and Wednesday morning classes. She took the Music Together teacher training in December to become a Registered Music Together teacher, and this winter she’ll be teaching a Wednesday morning class in our Springhurst location.

In addition to her credentials as a Music Together teacher, Krystle is a Board Certified Music Therapist and she practices as a professional music therapist when she’s not teaching Music Together classes. She also keeps busy with dance, yoga, professional wedding planning, and more. Welcome, Miss Krystle!

How to contact us

Miriam Klein – My office number is (502) 491-3131. Because I have a home office, feel free to reach me in the evenings at this number. I’m comfortable with calls up till 10:00 pm - sometimes it’s easier to make a call after children are asleep. You can also reach me on my cell phone: (502) 558-0345. Before class, my cell phone is the best number to use, and you can call as early as 7:30 am.

Karen Hild – Karen’s home number is (502) 317-1362. You can call her any time. Karen prefers not to publish her cell phone number, so if you need to reach her just before class, contact me and I’ll relay the message. Karen’s email address is ephyria(at)hotmail.com

Lorna Dries – Lorna’s home number is 452-1765, and her cell phone is (502) 296-4345. Her email is Lorna.Dries(at)gmail.com.

Krystle Middlemiss – Krystle can be reached by cell phone at (970) 217-2704. Her email is ksmiddlemiss(at)hotmail.com. Krystle doesn’t check her email daily, so the best way to reach her quickly is through her cell phone.

Who to contact about…

·         Scheduling a makeup – I’ll have the master calendar for make-ups, so please contact me instead of your class teacher to schedule a makeup. Or use the new online makeup scheduler.
·         Class dynamics or questions about what we’re doing in class – talk to your teacher first, but feel free to contact me any time.
·         Payment or registration questions – contact me
·         Dates and schedule questions – ask any of us, or check on the website.

Feel free to contact me at any time with any questions, concerns, feedback, etc.

Dates

Classes start the week of January 11, and will run for 10 weeks, up till March 20. We will offer classes during holidays and school breaks, and if you have an older sibling who’ll be out of school, they’re welcome in our classes. (Please let us know who to expect!)

We’ll also offer an extra week of makeup and demo classes during the week of March 22-27. Please note that not every scheduled class will automatically have a scheduled makeup during this 11th week. You’re welcome to come to any of our makeup/demo classes during this week – and we especially welcome your friends visiting our classes!

Our spring session (the Tambourine collection!) will start the week of March 29.

Weather closing policy

Weekday morning classes – if Jefferson County Public Schools cancel classes due to weather, then our Music Together classes will be canceled as well. If JCPS has a delayed start, we’ll probably have classes. I’ll make a decision based on the weather in the morning, and I’ll post a message on my office voice mail (491-3131). Saturday and evening classes – I will make my best decision about closings based on whether there are large-scale closings in the city, and I’ll post the information on my voice mail.

If Music Together classes are canceled for any reason, I’ll make every effort to contact you by phone and by email. Please make sure I have your current phone number and/or cell phone number so I can reach you.  If you ever have doubts about if class is in session, feel free to call either the number above, or my cell phone (558-0345).

If classes are canceled due to weather, we’ll add an extra class day to the end of the semester, so you’ll still get a complete 10-week semester. And if we’re holding classes but you don’t feel safe about coming in because of your local conditions, please stay safe and stay home! You’re always welcome to take a makeup, or visit an extra class at the end of the semester.

Music Together has an oops moment

When Music Together teachers go through the teacher training, one of the things we learn is to expect and enjoy those occasional “oops moments”, when things don’t go exactly as we had planned. When we acknowledge our “oops moment”, laugh, and let it go, we give everyone around us permission to be human too.

Music Together LLC had an “oops moment” in creating the family mix track for the song “Everybody Loves Saturday Night”. Instead of the family mix, which has more lyrics, they accidently used the teacher mix, which has fewer lyrics, and more spaces to insert your own words. Oops! The gift this gives us is that we have more opportunities to make up our own words, and great background tracks while we sing whatever we want. Just for fun, here are some words that a teacher made up about this situation:

Everybody hates to make mistakes
Everybody hates to make mistakes
Everybody, Everybody, Everybody, Everybody
Everybody hates to make mistakes

But you know that we all make mistakes
Yes you know that we all make mistakes
Yes we all do! Yes we all do! Yes we all do! Yes we all do!
Yes you know that we all make mistakes

Pampered Chef – a fun food experience, and a scholarship fundraiser!

Our friend Jessica Agruso in our Monday Middletown class has become a Pampered Chef consultant. She demonstrates the products and sells some nifty cooking gear through a series of cooking classes and parties in different locations. Are you interested in hosting a cooking show? Contact Jessica directly at 644-7493 for more information.

As a scholarship fundraiser activity, Jessica is hosting a Pampered Chef party on Saturday evening (6:30 pm), February 13, at Middletown United Methodist Church. Come out and enjoy some great food and fun, and help raise money to fund our scholarship program! Contact Jessica to RSVP, and for more information.

Policy reminders:

Visitors in class

You’re welcome to invite your friends to join us in class at any time. We ask only that you schedule their visit with us in advance, so we won’t have too many new faces in class at one time.

There’s no charge for local visitors – we love to have them!  If you’re bringing non-local friends or relatives, we’d appreciate a $10 donation to our scholarship fund on their behalf.

Remember – if a friend enrolls and mentions your name as a referral, both of you get a $15 discount off your tuition for one semester. (The referred family must be a NEW enrollment, not a current or previously enrolled family.)

NEW – If you’re caring for a non-enrolled child, you’re welcome to bring them for up to two visits. If they will be visiting for more than two classes, we request a donation to the scholarship fund on their behalf. Alternatively, we might consider enrolling children who are frequent visitors.

Withdrawals

We make schedule and financial decisions based on the information we have at the start of classes, and when people withdraw after the start of classes, this can cause us some financial consequences as well as scheduling headaches. For this reason, we’re instituting a formal withdrawal policy.

If you withdraw within the first three weeks of class, you’ll get a complete refund or credit, less the cost of the Music Together materials (CDs and songbooks). After the third week of classes, no refunds are given. However, if you have special circumstances, please let us know right away. We’ll do our best to honor your needs as well as our own.

Reminder – Online makeup scheduler

If you need to miss a class for any reason, you’re welcome to make it up by visiting one that meets at a different day, and/or by coming to an end-of-semester make-up class day. Now you can schedule your makeup class online. To find the makeup scheduler, just look under the “For Enrolled Families” tab on the menu bar of the website. You’re also welcome to call or email to schedule your makeup. Just, please, don’t drop in to class!
